Baking soda is made from an ore found in nature which is mined and then processed to form sodium bicarbonate, also known as baking soda. Odors are composed of chemicals that are diffused throughout the air. The chemicals can be man made or can be naturally occurring. Baking soda is very effective on naturally occurring odor such as food, pet and human body odors, more so than activated carbon. Baking soda brings the pH to a more neutral or balanced state. This works especially well on naturally occuring odors, which are usually acids or bases and are not pH neutral. In a filter each fiber is coated with a fuzzy covering of baking soda. "Fuzziness" increases both odor removal and gives more contact area for the dust to collide and be captured by the filter.
